New Year. New Language?

Hey,

I hope you're having a great December so far. I've been hanging out with the family, doing our Christmas traditions, eating lots of food -- as you do!

In this email just a quick update on my annual conference: The New Year - New Language Summit which is premiering on January 6th, at 10am Eastern. The updates include the final speaker lineup, a new bonus for All-Access Pass holders, and a big announcement from me.

In case you don't have your free ticket yet, simply go here to reserve it:

Upgraded tickets are also available on that page, for additional perks. With the free ticket you can watch every session from this year within 24 hours of it going up on the website.

Final Speaker Lineup

Here's a quick sneak-peek at the schedule for this year, which includes familiar faces from previous years, as well as a couple of debutants.

With the topic of this year being "Consistency" we're really addressing all levels of language learning, as this is something you can struggle regardless if you're just getting started, or if you've been learning for a while.

I hope to have all the presentation titles - and the final schedule up and running this week, so we're ready for January 6th.

New All Access Gold Benefit: Language Career Summit Replays

With all 4 NYNLs now consolidated on the same platform, and accessible by one log-in, I made the decision to also migrate over the 25 or so replays from the 2022 Language Career Summit.

These presentations give practical ideas and strategies for making languages your career of choice, or simply a side-hustle to help you earn a bit on the side with your passion.

You can watch these now with the ALL ACCESS PASS GOLD ticket, which also includes all the replays from NYNL 22, 23, 24, 25.

Swag Bag

A recurring element of NYNL is the "Swag Bag" which includes freebies and offers from our speakers and sponsors. Some are available only to All-Access Pass holders, but there are plenty of freebies for free ticket holders as well.

There's already a fair few in there, and I'm hoping to have the last ones added during this week, so check back regularly to the page for more.

My "Retirement"

I contemplated making a big secret announcement during the event, but I opted to just tell you here in the newsletter instead.

This year's NYNL will be the last. I have made the decision to retire from language learning content creation entirely, after more than 10 years of being active in the community.

During this event I'll be hosting one or more live Q&A sessions where I'll get into more detail about this decision, but the short version is that I'm not capable of multi-tasking that well. Probably due to my 'troubled' past.

The way this manifests is that I have a lot of things I'd like to do (including my main "job" in internet marketing) but they all get a minimum of attention, so they just barely move.

It's like there's 10 people trying to squeeze through the same doorway.

That's the same with my own language learning projects - I've been talking about learning languages for so many years, but neglected my own goals in the process, whether intentionally or just coincidentally.

So, I need to get rid of some commitments so I can focus on what really matters. The first of which being the 'job' as that is what pays the bills.

Over the next few months I hope to find a 'successor' I can train in the business model and execution of Actual Fluency and/or the NYNL Conferences, but if that is not possible, I will just leave them as is.

The last 10 years have been amazing, and I can't thank you enough for being part of the journey with me.

Hey! I'm just about to wrap up the 4th New Year - New Language Summit, which also happens to be my last. It will be nice to kick up my feet with a nice whisky and just relax a bit for the weekend. But, before then I just wanted to share with you one of the best opportunities for this year if you're learning Spanish (of any level!) You see, the Spanish tutoring company, Baselang, are running their one and only yearly promotion - and it's expiring in less than 16 hours! You can see all the...

Hey! The day has come. Today is the final day of NYNL 2025, and the final day for NYNL with me at the helm. I'll be exploring ways that the event series can continue, but for the time being there are no firm agreements in place. Thank you so much to everyone who came to the event, and especially my presentation yesterday, where I shared some deeper details about my 11 years in the language learning community as a content creator, and event organiser. Bonus Sessions I realise, I made a minor...
